I’ve gathered many things in my life. Letters, movie ticket stubs, pressed wildflowers, Kombucha containers. Out of all of them, rosemary will remain the most significant.
Beginning May 2016, I had the honor to au pair with a family in Germany. A week after I arrived, we took off on a 12 hour road trip to a small costal town in Italy called Marina di Ravenna. Cold sea air, hot Italian sun, gelato, my first (authentic) cappuccino & bike rides around the town with the family characterized this trip. During those bike rides, the fresh warm smell of rosemary filled the air. Each time I happened upon a bush, a sweet voice whisper, “Remember this. Remember all of it.”
& so I have. As much as I could. I’ve gathered so much more along the way: a love for long walks & bread making, for small gatherings & hearty food; for quality & sincerity over image & quantity.
This has been long time in the making. Days of emptiness, pockets of fullness, travels & changes have led me to where I am today. All have left me with the desire to share, create, remember & hope as I continue to gather rosemary through my days.
